Solstice Soirée

June 22nd, 2024

Milton Crotts, conductor

Solstice Soirée

The BRO Chamber Ensemble hails the arrival of summer with an enchanted evening of music at Souther Williams Vineyard.

The Blue Ridge Orchestra presents Solstice Soirée, an alfresco chamber concert (with a WNC twist), at 6:00pm on Saturday, June 22nd, in the beautiful Souther Williams vineyard on Hoopers Creek Road in Fletcher, NC.

Stepping outside classical confines, Music Director Milton Crotts incorporates the popular music of local artists into an eclectic program anchored by the BRO Chamber Ensemble. Mozart, Vivaldi, and Albinoni are all represented, but not necessarily in expected ways.

Fancy Marie and Craig Kellberg contribute the honky tonk, southern gothic vibes of Fancy and the Gentlemen. The Walker Family Trio shares the traditional, old-time, Celtic sounds of The Walker Family Band.

Trombonists extraordinaire, Rienette Davis and Emily Songster perform vibrant and unexpected arrangements of classical and popular works.

Table seating in the pavilion is accompanied by wine and delectables. Seating on the vineyard lawn is available come rain or come shine -- bring your own blanket, lawn chair, and umbrella. (No outside beverages allowed, please.)

Fancy and the Gentlemen

Based out of Asheville, NC, Fancy and the Gentlemen brings an eclectic mix of Honky Tonk, Blues, Southern Gothic, Rock, and Classical roots to this Americana band. Sensitive and rich harmonies weave through the tapestry of original compositions and carefully curated covers that celebrate the roots of American Southern music. The crew enjoys performing as a full groove-infused band while staying true to the core artistry that is the songwriting trio, featuring Fancy Marie, Craig Kellberg, and Alex Travers.

The Walker Family Band

For over two decades, The Walker Family Band has delighted audiences throughout the Southeast with a distinctive take on traditional styles, performing Irish dance music and American old-time music with a forward-reaching attitude. They especially enjoy sharing original tunes, which grow naturally from these roots, and from their thorough training and experience in classical music and jazz. The result is varied music not compartmentalized into a particular genre. All now living in the Asheville area, the band is playing for events in the area. Jennie Brunner is a long-standing member of the Blue Ridge Orchestra.

Jennie leads the way with beautiful and heartfelt fiddle playing, and is a master of connecting with the audience. She is accompanied and supported, very capably, by her dad, Scott Walker, on guitar and fiddle, and her uncle Landon Walker on accordion and bass.
